Anti-Wrinkle Injection Aftercare
Patient Information
Important Notice
This information is provided for general educational purposes only and is intended for patients who have already received anti-wrinkle injections following an individual consultation with a qualified health practitioner.
It is not intended to advertise or promote prescription medicines or encourage treatment.
Purpose of Aftercare
Appropriate aftercare following anti-wrinkle injections supports patient comfort, assists normal settling of the treatment, and reduces the risk of unwanted effects. Individual responses to treatment vary, and specific advice may differ depending on treatment areas and clinical assessment.
Immediately After Treatment (First 4–6 Hours)
Remain upright and avoid lying flat
Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas
Avoid applying pressure to the face
Gentle facial movement (such as talking or normal expressions) is acceptable
Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at injection sites may occur and is usually temporary.
First 24 Hours
Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that significantly increase heart rate
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, or excessive heat exposure
Avoid alcohol consumption
Avoid facial treatments, massage, or cosmetic procedures
Avoid makeup application to injection sites where possible
What to Expect
Common, temporary effects may include:
Mild redness or swelling at injection sites
Headache
A sensation of tightness or heaviness in the treated area
These effects typically resolve without intervention.
When to Contact the Clinic
Please seek advice from your treating practitioner if you experience:
Increasing pain, swelling, or redness
Unusual or worsening symptoms
Any concerns regarding your response to treatment
Urgent medical attention should be sought if you experience severe or unexpected symptoms.
Follow-Up and Review
A follow-up appointment may be recommended by your practitioner to assess treatment response and ensure appropriate clinical outcomes. Any concerns should be discussed directly with your treating clinician.
Individualised Care
Anti-wrinkle injections are prescription-only treatments and are provided following a personalised consultation. Aftercare advice may vary depending on the treatment area, dosage, and individual factors. Always follow the specific advice provided by your practitioner.
Timing of Other Treatments Following Anti-Wrinkle Injections
After anti-wrinkle injections, it is important to allow adequate time for the product to localise within the targeted muscles and for injection sites to heal. Undertaking certain treatments too soon may increase the risk of bruising, irritation, inflammation, or unintended product spread.
The timeframes below are provided as general, evidence-based guidance. Individual recommendations may vary based on clinical assessment.
Facials and Skin Treatments
Gentle, non-manipulative facials (no massage, pressure, heat, or active exfoliation) may generally be considered after 7 days
Facials involving massage, manual manipulation, heat, exfoliation, or active ingredients should be delayed for 14 days
Clinical rationale:
Manual pressure, heat, and increased circulation may theoretically increase the risk of product migration during the early settling phase and may exacerbate post-injection sensitivity or bruising.
Waxing, Threading, and Hair Removal
Facial waxing or threading in treated areas should be avoided for a minimum of 14 days
Body waxing away from treated areas may be resumed earlier if there is no bruising, tenderness, or inflammation
Clinical rationale:
Hair removal treatments may cause mechanical stress, irritation, or inflammation at injection sites, particularly in the first week following treatment.
Cosmetic and Machine-Based Treatments
Laser, IPL, radiofrequency, ultrasound, or other energy-based treatments should generally be postponed for at least 14 days
Treatments involving heat or stimulation of treated muscles may require longer intervals, depending on the device and treatment area
Clinical rationale:
Energy-based devices increase heat, blood flow, and tissue stimulation, which may affect product settling and increase the risk of inflammation if performed too soon after injections.
Other Injectable or Cosmetic Procedures
Additional injectable treatments should only be undertaken following clinical review and advice from the treating practitioner
Staggered procedures may be recommended to allow appropriate healing, assessment, and monitoring
Clinical rationale:
Spacing injectable treatments supports accurate assessment of treatment response and reduces cumulative risk.
Important Considerations
Timeframes provided are general guidelines only
Individual advice may vary based on treatment areas and personal factors
Always inform any treating practitioner of recent injectable treatments before undergoing other procedures
If unsure, seek professional advice prior to proceeding
